In
the long summer season, San Vito offers its visitors a series
of folkloric, sport, cultural, recreation, wine and food
events. Some of them have become a must for the guests staying
in the town. Such events have proved to appeal not only to
those who love the beach and the crystalline sea, but also to
those who love meeting, socialising and cultural exchanges.
|
"San
Vito Italia", the meeting of all the Italian towns
connected to the figure of the martyr Saint Vito takes
place in spring, between the end of April and the
beginning of May; a week full of debates, exhibitions,
concerts, band parades and promotions of all those
places in Italy which are named San Vito.
|
 |
The
festival "Festa di San Vito", the celebration of the
saint, takes place in June and officially opens the summer
season. From 12th to 15th of June, in fact, the clean and
straight streets of the town are embellished with lights and
banners and every day the "tamburini" (drummers)
stroll around the streets. The event has a strong religious
feeeling and finishes with the "sbarco del santo" (arrival
of the saint) on the beach of San Vito together with his
tutors Modesto and Crescenzia on the 15th. At midnight on the
same day, spectacular fireworks will close the event.
"Libri,
Autori e Bouganville", meetings with some of the most
popular Italian writers, takes place in Via Venza, a typical
street open to cultural events, from July to September, which
is becoming more and more popular with the years.

The
last week in September is dedicated to ethnic food with
the "Cous Cous Fest", a singular food
competition which sees countries such as Algeria, France,
Italy, Israel, Morocco, Palestine, etc. making cous cous
in their own way, which is also an interesting way to
strengthen the relationships among such different but
also similar cultures.
|
The
best chefs of the Mediterranean fight in a friendly
competition to the very last grain of cous cous, where talent,
experience and creativity are the indispensable ingredients to
dress the dish in all its forms (fish cous cous, meat cous
cous, vegetables cous cous). A selected board, formed of
Italian and international journalists and headed by famous
food critics, will give the prize for the best cous cous in
the world.
Another
culture and food event "Alla scoperta del Capone" (Discovering
the Capone fish) takes place one weekend in between October
and November. This event aims at the promotion of a kind of
fish which, in autumn, is abundantly fished in the waters off
the coast of San Vito. The proper Italian name of this fish is
"Lampuga", but in San Vito Lo Capo it is called
" Capone" and on this occasion, the restaurants
experiment all sorts of ways of cooking it.
These
are only a part of the various events which occur in the
summer season in San Vito.Actually, every single moment is an
event here in paradise!
